From the land survey to the site plan

A forest lot in Hokkaido, from the surveyor's SIMA file to the site plan sheet: the official corners before you go, the phone on site (corners, benchmark, heights, trees, the road), one-click import, the house placed and turned, a new driveway, the pad and its cut and fill. The lot, the people and every number are made up for the tutorial.

Step by step

1 · Before going to site

T4-01

The official corners, before you go

The surveyor's boundary survey (地積測量図) comes as a SIMA file with the official corners in 公共座標 (JGD2011 plane coordinates). Read it first: on site, the phone then shows where each corner should be. Site & MEP › Boundary from coordinates…

T4-02

Import the SIMA file

Import SIMA / CSV… reads the corner names and X / Y, the lot and its zone (here XII, central Hokkaido). Check the table and the area against the survey map: 5 corners, 1,319.03 m². Shift_JIS or UTF-8 both read.

T4-03

The lot on the site plan

Place boundary draws the lot with its official corners K1–K5 and keeps their 公共座標. The project's GPS position stays the origin, so the house of the project sits on the lot. Save the project.

T4-04

Put the project in SumiCAD Cloud

The phone reads the corners from the project in the cloud. Cloud › Put this project in SumiCAD Cloud… sends it to your firm (the lot, its corners, the house).

2 · On site with the phone

T4-05

A survey map for the lot

On the phone, open SumiCAD Cloud in the browser and tap Survey › New map. Name it, link it to the project, and Use my position picks the zone from the GPS (XII here).

To keep the pictures short, the tutorial map already holds what an RTK receiver measured earlier in the day: spot heights every 6 m, six trees with notes, a rock, the manhole in the road, a pole, the east fence and the top and bottom of the bank in the south. Three spot heights were taken with the phone only — their heights are approximate.

T4-06

Start the GPS

The field screen: the map with every point, the record buttons, and the field book (Points). Start GPS shows your position and its accuracy. A phone alone is good to a few metres; an RTK receiver (Bluetooth or USB) gives centimetres.

T4-07

The official corners from the project

Map menu › Corners from the SumiCAD project: the lot you placed in SumiCAD, its 5 corners and its area. Add 5 corners puts them on the map as survey corners.

T4-08

Walk to a corner with Go to

Open Points, tap corner K3, then Go to: the banner gives the distance and the direction. Walk until it turns green (You are there), find the stone, and Record this corner. The card shows how far your point is from the official corner.

T4-09

Set the benchmark (BM)

Every height of the site is read from one benchmark. Tap the manhole cover in the road, Set as benchmark (BM), type its height (here 214.383 m, as the receiver measured it), a note, and take a photo of the marker so the builder finds it again.

T4-10

Heights and where they come from

Each point keeps its height source: RTK fix, typed by hand, laser level, or phone GPS (±5–10 m, approximate). Record a ground level, then Edit point: type the height read on the laser level and set Height from › Laser level. The card shows its difference to the BM.

T4-11

Trees with a note

Stand at the trunk and tap Tree. Type what you see in the note — species, trunk, crown ("birch, trunk 20 cm, crown 4 m"): SumiCAD reads the crown and the species from it for the site plan.

T4-12

The tree's note

The last-point card asks for the note. Species, trunk and crown in your own words; the desktop keeps the note and draws the crown.

T4-13

The road: walk its centre line

Line has seven kinds: road centre line, road edge, path, fence, ditch, top and bottom of a slope. A road centre line asks for the width (6.0 m). Record a point at each bend, then Finish.

T4-14

Contours, then Upload

The map draws contours from the spot heights as you go (tap the spacing button: 0.5 / 1 / 2 / 5 m). What you record stays on the phone, even without signal, until Upload.

3 · Back in SumiCAD

T4-15

One-click import

Cloud › Surveys… lists the firm's survey maps. Import into this project takes everything in one click — lot, terrain, roads, lines, trees and marks — as one undo step. Choose… shows the plan of the points first.

T4-16

The site, as measured

The terrain from the spot heights and its contours, the existing road with its width, the trees with their crowns, the rock, the fence and the bank, the benchmark. The heights from the phone alone stay out of the terrain until you accept them.

T4-17

Check the heights and the corners

Survey data lists every point with its code and height. The benchmark is set; the 3 phone-only heights stay out (tick the box only if you have nothing better). Official vs measured corners: K3 was recorded 0.8 m from the official corner — a phone's GPS is good to a few metres; check corners with an RTK receiver.

4 · Design on the site

T4-18

Place and turn the house

On the Site plan, a click on the house selects the whole building. Drag it to move it (it snaps to the setbacks), or type its position; Rotation turns it: 3° makes it parallel to the north boundary (the story plans stay square). Design GL sets where it stands on the surveyed ground: 213.2 m, on the receiver's heights.

T4-19

The house on the ground, in 3D

With its Design GL set, the house stands on the measured ground. The 3D view shows the terrain built from the spot heights, the trees at their crown size, the road and the bank. Check that nothing sticks out: one wrong height shows at once as a spike or a pit.

T4-20

A new driveway

Road (Site & MEP, or the Site panel): status New, width 4,000. Click the centre line from the existing road to the house, Enter, and Enter again to keep the width. A tree closer than the road width, the shoulders and the clearance is marked for cutting (a red cross).

T4-21

Trees: keep, cut or move

Select a tree: the Info Box shows its note, its crown and Site preparation — Automatic (cut only when a drawn road needs it), Keep (a protection circle on the site plan), Cut, or Move. This birch stands in the new driveway: Automatic has marked it for felling and stump removal.

T4-22

The pad for the house

Groundwork (Site & MEP): Flat pad, then click the corners around the house and Enter. The ground at the first click sets the level (or type it); the batters meet the existing ground at 1:1.5 in cut and 1:2 in fill. Slope draws a line the ground slopes from.

T4-23

Read the cut and fill

Volumes in the Groundwork panel: cut, fill, topsoil, crushed stone, the surplus soil hauled away and the soil brought in, with the bulking factors. The same numbers go to the estimate; the 3D view's Show menu tints cut and fill.

5 · The site plan sheet

T4-24

The site plan sheet

Layouts › A.01 Site plan: the lot with its corners and edge lengths, the north, the house and its distances to the boundary, the driveway, the trees to keep and to cut, the pad. It updates by itself; Publish… makes the PDF.
